Dr. Biddy Martin: next UW chancellor
Dr. Biddy (Carolyn Arthur) Martin has been recommended by a committee of the UW-Madison Board of Regents to become our next chancellor.
Since 2000, Martin has served as provost at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Born in 1951, she graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1973, and earned a PhD in German literature from the UW-Madison in 1985, working with Jost Hermand as an advisor. Her dissertation is available at Memorial Library, as are all doctoral theses awarded by the university.
I hope she brings with her an understanding of libraries as centers for teaching and research innovation! The Cornell Libraries and librarians have been doing some amazing things in the areas of digitization and scholarly communications, including metadata services and the VIVO collaborative research tool.
